Established in 2004 as a home based business and then titled Battered Baubles we traded at Rosebank Mall flea market and then at Voortrekker Museum antique market. As the economy got tougher we tried various other flea markets. Eventually we decided to try selling our collectables online. Here we found success. Through Bidorbuy we have traded more than 1000 items successfully.
In the early years on Bidorbuy we found it very difficult and a lot more sales where cancelled than accepted. I think I would put this down to online buying and selling in South Africa having taken a very slow and cumbersome route to becoming successful.
When I started on Bidorbuy there where very few categories in which I could list my items. This made it very difficult to achieve sales volume. However through patience and a lot of communication with the company I was able to better the situation.
In 2007 I was nominated as a candidate for top seller by Bidorbuy and again in 2008. However I was not making enough to call it an income and was still reliant on my husband and on the income from flea markets.
I have been doing flea markets for over 20 years. Having started on the Durban Beachfront Amphitheatre Flea Market selling wood products I progressed to selling badges to bikers. This became a business when Zynbad Bikers was started in 1999.
In 2003 I moved to Johannesburg to get married and took a break from motorcycling. My efforts now went into antiques and collectables. At one time I traded on the Rosebank Flea Market and at Voortrekker Antique Market. Now I only trade at Uncle Tim's Antique market once a month.
Having learnt a lot about the IT industry my interests and efforts have turned to trading online through bidorbuy and through my own website. Lately I have furthered this by offering training and business information to flea market stall holders.
